Located in the north of the Alicante province (between Altea and Moraira), is Calpe. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful towns on the Costa Blanca. With a warm climate, fine sandy beaches and crystal clear water. All that and more have made it a vacation destination for many national and international tourists.
In Antica Roma we are good lovers of our town and we love to receive any curious person who wants to discover its most beautiful streets and corners. So, we are going to tell you what you can see in its Old Town and the best what to do.
We have to move away from the coast to get to the Old Town. About 2 kilometers, more or less. Calpe was originally born as a fishing village and its old town was protected by a wall to stop pirate attacks. To get to our destination, you can follow the main shopping street and turn left at Plaza de la Constitución.
What to do in the Old Town? Best of all and what we always advise our clients is to stroll around this charming place and discover its details personally.
You can follow the signposted Tourist Route through the narrow cobbled streets and contemplate the alleys full of plants and flowers. The tour will surely key you to Torreó de la Peça, in the Plaza de la Vila. That, if you did not know, it was part of the double defensive wall with artillery pieces that defended the city in the 15th century and today, it is the Museum of Collecting.
Along the way you can find the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Snows, a unique parish that is also located in the Plaza de la Vila, in the heart of the historic center. Then, the Museum of History and Archeology, located on Calle Santísimo Cristo, is the perfect place to discover the secrets of the past of this beautiful city.
We have already told you, a few things to see and do in our town. But the best thing you can do is come to our trattoria, enjoy a delicious meal and we will tell you more secrets where to go so you can have beautiful photos for your memories and Instagram.
