Gastronomy is one of the elements that best defines the culture of different societies. The Latin personality of the Italians is reflected in their tastes and preferences for food, but also in their hobbies. Let’s explore a little more to learn about Italian table manias.

With the family

The most characteristic element of the Italian personality when it comes to sitting at the table is its taste for doing so with family or surrounded by friends. Lunch or dinner time is a time for family reunion to enjoy the company of those closest to you.

The dishes at home are always the best for an Italian. It doesn’t matter how well known a chef or a restaurant is. Like mother’s lasagna there is no other.

Cooking is an art

Italian cuisine doesn’t understand fast food. Italy’s cuisine has centuries of history and its care for preparation is passed down from generation to generation.

The balance between ingredients and proportions is essential to keep an Italian happy at the table. Every pasta has its ideal sauce and must always be “al dente”, at the right point of cooking.

Their love of taste is reflected in their dessert making, which has become one of the most famous and appreciated varieties in the world.

At the table

In Italy you eat with cutlery and it is frowned upon to use your hands. Food is an excuse to get together and enjoy each other’s company. It’s hard to understand sitting at the table in a hurry or looking at your watch all the time.

It is not a usual custom to ask for an extra cheese or sauce to dress a dish. Italian cuisine seeks the exact balance and proportion of ingredients to provide the best flavor. Adding extras or choosing inappropriate sauces can spoil the original flavor of a recipe.
