Italian gastronomy is one of the best known and enjoyed worldwide. Its healthy and Mediterranean character has perhaps made it the most widespread gastronomy throughout the planet. UNESCO has risen to the Neapolitan pizza as intangible heritage of humanity.

Italian cuisine is as varied as colloquial expressions related to it. We invite you to get to know them and, little by little, they will be introduced to your tables on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL PHRASES THAT ALL FOODIE MUST KNOW

  • Fare a spaghettata (eat spaghetti). Expression used to not necessarily eat spaghetti, but used to simply propose an outing in the company of family and friends.
  • Piatto ricco, my fiction. If you want to thank an invitation, this is the best way to express it.
  • A ciligieta pulls l´altra (one beer leads to another). So rich is Italian food that it is difficult to get up from the table and stop eating. It is one of the most used expressions in Italy in these situations.
  • Dita gave wine and a bit to the doctor. You cannot understand Italian cuisine without its magnificent wines. For Italians a little wine a day is the best remedy to “kick the doctor”.
  • Sono pieno eats a uovo (I’m full as an egg). No further explanation is necessary, is there?
  • Mangiare per vivere e non vivere per mangiare. The Spanish touch of “work to live and not live to work”, the Italian finds his gastronomic version of “eat to live and not live to eat”.

Many more expressions enrich the Italian gastronomic culture that, like its food, have spread throughout the world.

From Antica Roma, we hope that your next visit will make these expressions of yours and that you can enjoy our company.
